There’s nothing quite like the smell of mulled apple cider to signal the transition from Summer to Autumn. This recipe uses large spices and slices of fruit that can easily be strained for serving. Plus, when you toast the spices before simmering, you get a delightful extra layer of flavour. Try this easy recipe for a warm afternoon treat or make it for your next gathering.

Cook it with the Lodge Cast Iron Dutch Oven

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Heat the 26cm Double Dutch Oven lid over medium-low heat for 5 minutes. Add the cinnamon sticks, allspice berries, and cloves. Toast the spices for 3-5 minutes or until your kitchen smells like autumn.
  2. Add 1.9L of cider, the ginger, apple, and oranges to the dutch oven over medium-high heat with the toasted spices. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Top with the lid and simmer for 30 minutes.
  3. Strain spices before serving.
  4. Serve warm. Garnish with orange slices.
