Pie weights are essential for use in blind baking in order to prevent blistering and shrinkage of pastry. These pie weights/baking beads are reusable and will ensure against bubbling during baking. Pie weights are made from an unglazed ceramic material which will ensure even heat distribution for premium results.
To use:
Simply fit your pastry dough into your pan, then gently press a layer of foil or baking paper on top of the pastry and line it with the weights on top. Make sure to pack the beads against the sides because this is where shrinkage is most likely to occur.
As per your recipe, partially bake the pastry crust, remove from the oven and allow pie weights to cool – weights will retain heat so take caution and wait for them to cool. Once cool remove the weights and foil/baking paper, then finish baking as directed.
Weights can be hand washed in warm water and air-dried before storing.
